Maed started with a pretty simple idea. Sonja longed to create the kind of salon she wanted to spend her own time in. After years working in salons, fashion and education, she’d seen a lot of ways to do hair. When Maed opened, she wanted to take everything she loved about the industry and leave behind the bits she didn’t.
So, in a sun-filled corner of East Brunswick Village, she made a space that feels a little less like going to the hairdresser.
There’s really good hair, obviously. But there’s also time. Proper consultations. Really good coffee. Something to eat. A head massage you’ll think about later. People who listen before they pick up the scissors.
We’re interested in hair that works with the person wearing it. Natural texture, lived-in colour, great cuts and the kind of hair you can actually recreate once you get home. Sometimes that means a big change. Sometimes it’s making what you already have work a whole lot better.
Maed has grown into a small team of hairdressers with different strengths, personalities and perspectives, but the same approach to the person in the chair: listen properly, make them feel comfortable and send them out feeling more like themselves.
Come for the hair. Stay because you’re halfway through a story and your coffee isn’t finished yet.
