Sonja Connor
Founder / Creative DirectorSonja started hairdressing at 17 in Christchurch and, 19 years later, still genuinely loves showing up for the people on both sides of the chair. Her career has taken her through fashion, overseas and into the orbit of anyone willing to let her pick up the tools and learn something new. An all-rounder across colour, cutting and styling, she’s happiest enhancing what’s already there and helping people feel really, really good in their own hair. Equal parts hairdresser, listener, teacher and guide. Also mama to Tao Tao, arguably Maed’s most important staff member.
Louisa
Signature StylistLouisa has spent 19 years doing hair in just about every corner of the industry, from Rokk Ebony and BIBA to barbering at The Bearded Man, educating at BIBA Academy and eventually finding her way to Maed after becoming a mum. She has a particular soft spot for short cuts, curls and texture, and really knows her way around a great shape. Outside the salon she’s usually wrangling a toddler, shopping for something she almost certainly needs, or waiting for someone to hand her the karaoke mic.
Joshua
Signature StylistJoshua has been behind the chair for 16 years, beginning at Edward Beale in Hawthorn and very quickly discovering he had a knack for the whole thing. He loves lived-in colour in all its forms, from dimensional blondes and rich brunettes to a really good copper, and remains our resident big, bouncy blowout king. Away from the chair, life is usually a good cocktail, dinner with his partner Michael, long walks with Lady, a camera somewhere nearby and dinner parties with the record player going. Very serious about hair. Also very serious about a good time.
Sarah
Studio StylistSarah grew up in Broken Hill before moving to Melbourne and straight into hairdressing, beginning her apprenticeship at Prophecy Hair in Fitzroy. She loves hair with a bit of personality, especially creative colour, vivids, curls and natural texture, but just as much as the transformation itself, Sarah loves teaching people how to actually understand their own hair. Her chair is equal parts education and exhale. Outside the salon, you’ll find her at Sunday markets, the cinema, playing Dungeons & Dragons or cycling through sewing and lino printing before they make their way into the ADHD craft graveyard. Singing practice, however, is still going strong.
